Taking the step between primary and secondary school is a daunting prospective for parents and children alike. At Noel-Baker Academy we aim to make the process as smooth, easy and enjoyable as possible. Places for Noel-Baker Academy are allocated by the local authority and are confirmed on National Offer Day on the 1st March. From this point we are working behind the scenes to gather as much information about your son or daughter from their primary school. In late March and early April we host a welcome meeting for all parents and students to provide you with key information and dates going forward. You will be invited to these welcome meetings via a letter to the address that you supplied on the application form. Should you have changed your address between the end of October and the 1st March please let us know so that we can send all correspondences to the correct address.
Together with the information we gain from parents and students following the intake evening and information from the primary school staff we formulate the form groups to ensure that all students have the best chance at academic success going forward. Parents and students will be informed via a letter in early to mid-June with the form they are in. This letter will also include an invitation to the intake evening at the end of June. At this meeting you will have the chance to buy school uniform, meet your child’s future form tutor (where staff presence allows). After this date your son or daughter will attend Noel-Baker for an intake day and some students will also attend a sports day lead by Noel-Baker students.
From September your son or daughter will have lessons in there form groups. Before October half term we have a parents evening with your son/daughter’s tutor where we will provide you with information on their effort in lessons to date.
Each year group at Noel-Baker has a year manager attached to their year, year 7’s manager is not a teaching member of staff and is available should you need them at any point during the school day they can be reached by the school switchboard.
If you have any further questions regarding transition please contact Mr. Hopkins, the member of staff with responsibility for transition.
