Leave of Absence

Noel Baker Academy Policy for Term Time Leave of Absence Requests

In accordance with The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013, Noel Baker Academy will not authorise any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Family holidays in term time are disruptive and can seriously affect your child’s education. On average children who miss 17 or more days in a school year lose one full grade in their GCSE’s.

Parents/Carers are not entitled to remove their children from school in term time for a holiday. All applications for a leave of absence must be made on the Academy’s ‘Leave of Absence Request Form’.  Parents/Carers will receive a response in writing from the school informing them whether or not the request has been authorised.

Parents or carers who take their children on holiday without permission risk a fixed penalty notice of up to £120 (per parent, per child) if paid within 28 days. This amount can be reduced to £60 if paid within 21 days.
