The event, the first of its kind, was organised in partnership with Derby City Council and brought more than 200 young people together at Noel-Baker Academy in Alvaston. It provided students with the chance to explore the huge range of opportunities available locally – from education and training to apprenticeships, volunteering and community activities.
Throughout the day, students spoke with a wide range of local organisations, including the Scouts, Ozzy Wheels, Derby County Community Trust and Derbyshire Fire. Some exhibitors introduced students to exciting career and training pathways, while others highlighted volunteering and community projects where young people can make a difference and build new skills.
As well as chatting to employers and training providers, students took part in interactive sessions and activities designed to build confidence and teamwork. There were also refreshments and entertainment – including juggling and plate-spinning – supported by the Alvaston Neighbourhood Board, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
To add to the excitement, a raffle took place with prizes generously donated by local businesses, including Derby County football tickets and Rollerworld passes.
“It was a real pleasure to work alongside Derby City Council, Claire Briggs and so many fantastic local partners to make this event possible. The Youth Forum gave our students the chance to find out about different opportunities and make connections that could help shape their future. The feedback from both students and exhibitors has been brilliant.”
“At Noel-Baker, we’re committed to helping our students aim high and understand the many routes to success available to them – whether that’s further education, apprenticeships or careers within the local community.
“Events like this really bring that vision to life. They help students to see what’s possible, and they strengthen our partnership with local organisations who share our commitment to supporting young people in Derby. It was a proud moment to see our students engaging so positively and representing the school so well.”
