Psychology Overview

Psychology is offered as an A’ Level subject. We follow the AQA specification and this provides a broad introduction to the scope and nature of psychology as a science. The emphasis is on applying knowledge and understanding across all areas of the course; developing students’ transferable skills of analysis, evaluation and critical thinking.

At A Level, there are a range of topic-based options which bring together explanations from different approaches and engage students in issues and debates in contemporary psychology. The following topics are studied: Approaches to Psychology, Attachment, Social Influence, Psychopathology, Memory, Gender, Research methods, Issues and debates, Forensic psychology, Schizophrenia and Biopsychology.

Future Pathways: Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Occupational Psychology, Criminal and Forensic Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work, Teaching, Psychiatry and others.
