Derby authority provide a range of services. The Authorities Local offer provides information about support services. Some of the support services available include:

Communication and Interaction:

  • Speech and Language Therapy

Cognition and Learning:

  • Educational Psychologist

Social, Emotional & Mental Health:

  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

Sensory/Physical Needs:

  • Support Services for the Hearing, Physically & Visually impaired.
  • Physiotherapy Service

How can my family get support from these services?

Depending upon the circumstances a member of staff may be able to refer the family or provide contact details for these services. These may include the SENCo, Progress Leaders, Attendance and Pastoral Support officers or Family Support Worker.

Following assessment these services will usually provide advice to school if the parent/carer gives their permission for the information to be shared.

Derby SEND Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) formerly Parent Partnership Service can provide free, confidential, impartial information, advice and support for guardians, children and young people up to the age of 25 about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Umbrella supports any family with a disabled child aged 0 to 30. Umbrella cite they are able to support a child or young person no matter what their disability as their services are person centred to meet individual needs. For more information go to http://umbrella.uk.net/

What happens if my child needs specialist SEN equipment or other facilities?

The school will make reasonable adjustments to provide specialist aids and equipment in accordance with assessed needs. The Local Authority will provide specialist equipment such as wheelchairs when it has been prescribed by a relevant health service specialist.

The school has a policy regarding the administration and management of medicines on the school site. Some students will have an Individual Healthcare Plan in place. Staff have updates on conditions and medication affecting individual students and training, where appropriate, so that they are able to manage medical situations.
